Green Cove Springs Community Pool - Spring-fed Pool

In the town of Green Cove Springs, Florida, located in Clay County, you will find the Springs Park. This place is located around 35 miles outside of Jacksonville.

The community swimming pool is spring-fed. A natural spring is located right outside the pool gate, providing water for the pool. From there, the water flows out of the other end of the pool, down the spring run, and out to the river. The Green Cove Springs Park pool is open to the community at certain times of the year. On a recent trip to Jacksonville for a soccer tournament, we decided to go take a dip there between tournament games. It was a hot day, so it was a nice break. We had been to this park several times before when we camped not far away, but the pool was always either closed or under construction.

I called ahead to check if they were at capacity, given it was such a hot August day, and they said they were only at half capacity, so we headed over. While most Florida springs maintain a constant temperature of around 72 degrees year-round, give or take a couple of degrees, this one is consistently 77 degrees. The water in the swimming pool feels cool, but not cold like the other springs (I love the cold spring water!). You pay an admission fee at the gate to get in, which at this time was $5 per adult and $3 per child (little ones are free).

There are restrooms so you can change and there are plenty of lounge chairs around the pool. The pool goes from 3-6 feet, with the little kids being kept to the shallower end. There is also a lifeguard on duty. The pool had a slight sulphur smell, but it wasn't unpleasant. It was a nice chance to cool off, and we enjoyed the stop. The beautiful spring next to the pool is pumping out 1,346 gallons per minute, which is flowing into the pool. I love that while it's a pool it is still all spring water that you are swimming in. The spring is too small for swimming in, so they did a nice thing here. You can see the beauty of the spring and still swim in the water that flows from it. The spring run is also pretty!

While you may not want to set out on a day to drive a couple of hours to check this place out, if you are a spring hunter, you will want to make a quick stop when you are near the area. It's worth the stop for those who are spring hunters, because it is a spring-fed pool. The Green Cove Springs Park pool is family-friendly, clean, and refreshing. There was also plenty of free parking surrounding the park. You can take a look at the spring, spring run, and walk down to check out the river.
