Lafayette Blue Springs in Mayo, Florida

When we visited Lafayette Blue Springs this week, we had the place pretty much to ourselves! It was great. There were a couple of people who stopped by and then left, but for the most part, we didn't have to share it with anyone.

Lafayette Blue Springs is right on the Suwannee River. The spring is split into two basins, with one having the spring head, and the water flowing under a natural limestone bridge to go to the other basin, which is where we swam. The water in this area is only about waist-deep on me, but boy, is there a strong current! The water rushes quickly out of the spring and directly into the Suwannee River. It's quite beautiful to see.

The current of the spring flowing into the river is quite forceful. So much so that I tried to snorkel against the current to check out other areas of the spring, and it was pushing me back. The kids were laughing because it was pushing me right toward the river. Being that the current is so strong and leads to the river, I was a little cautious about where I let my kids go, because I didn't want them to get swept away in the current and end up out in the river.

This is a beautiful place. I loved the look of the spring and how it fed into the river, and the area was beautiful with cypress trees. If you are a spring hunter, you will want to check this one out. It's beautiful! Since it's a state park, admission was only $5 per car. There is a boardwalk down to the spring, and there are picnic tables and restrooms, too. They also offer camping at this state park.
