Otter Springs

We spent three nights RV camping at the Otter Springs Campground, located in Trenton, Florida. This campground in the Nature Coast is located off the beaten path and lives up to its motto of being a peaceful retreat on the Suwannee River!

We had site 11, which is a great option if you have kids and plan to use the pool. That site is a pull-through one that is right across from the indoor swimming pool, and it's in close walking distance to a bathhouse. That bathhouse constantly has a wet floor, though, because of the pool. The bathhouse at the far end of the campground is much better if you are not going to be swimming and going in there wet. There is a full hookup, and they do take Good Sam, so you can get a discounted price if you are a member.

Many of the sites at the campground are close together, but we only had one trailer on the side of us, with some trees in between. The campground is peaceful, and it&#39;s a short walk down to Otter Springs. We really liked the spring! Hardly anyone used it while we were there, so most of the time we had it all to ourselves. There is one section where the vent is deep, and then very shallow beach-like areas that are perfect for smaller kids. The water is beautiful and clear, and the spring run is gorgeous as it is lined with cypress trees. We are snorkelers and I can say that I've never seen so many fish in a spring! There were literally hundreds of them everywhere. The spring is obviously a nursery to fish, and there are fish of all small sizes. It was awesome!</p>

The kids also used the swimming pool a couple of times. It's indoor and has a large deck around it.

We are runners, so we ran a couple of mornings while there. We ran down the main road that goes back to the campground (the road where you see their big sign below). It was great! Very peaceful in the morning, beautiful nature views, and we saw deer and two bears (the bears were down the dirt road across from that main road one morning, but we saw deer every morning). While at the campground, we also saw a couple of kinds of woodpeckers, a barred owl, blue jays, armadillos, and more.

We really liked Otter Springs Campground. We stayed there on our annual spring hunting trip. While there, we visited numerous springs in the area. Within 30-60 minutes from the campground, there are numerous springs to explore. Along with RV camping, they also offer tent camping, and they have a few nice cabins that you can rent.

We did spend time at the spring at Otter Springs. It's smaller, and was a bit overgrown, but there was still a lot of beauty in it. This spring is worth checking out, and if you are into camping, it's a nice place to stay a few nights!
