Wekiwa Springs State Park

Today we spent the day at Wekiwa Springs State Park, located in Apopka, Florida. When we arrived at the spring, at 9:30 am, it was not busy at all. This is because it was a Wednesday morning. I imagine the weekends would be packed all day long. Up until around lunch time it wasn't very busy, but it did get busier in the afternoon.
There are hiking trails at the park, so we started out by taking a short walk on the boardwalk that leads back to dirt trails. It was a nice walk and just enough to get us hot and ready to get into the cool water of the springs.>
The springs at Wekiwa are beautiful! The swimming area is large, so even when it got busier, there was still enough room for everyone to enjoy themselves. The water is crystal clear and refreshing. I personally love the cool water of the springs in Florida (it's 72 degrees year-round). We had a great time snorkeling, tubing, and just hanging out. Most of the water comes up to around my chest. There are a few areas that are a little deeper. There is plenty of room around the springs to set up your chairs and things, as well as a grassy area where people can set up their things. There are also a few benches around the springs that can be used. In July 2017, they built a small shallow area for little kids.
Wekiwa Springs State Park also has a small nature center, where they teach you about some of the animals that live in the park, as well as an area with several picnic tables and a concession area. The concession area has a variety of swimming/snorkeling/tubing supplies, as well as snacks and drinks. There are also bathrooms with changing stalls (the bathroom was very clean). There is canoe and bike rental available as well.</p>
We had a great time today! We loved Wekiwa Springs and will go back again. It was a great place to take the kids for the day. Within 15 minutes of getting them in the car they were all fast asleep from all they had done at the springs.
Update: 2025 - We have been there many times this spring, including having camped there numerous times. It's great! We have also run 5 Ks and 10 Ks there and went there just for the hiking in the wintertime. It's a wonderful park!
